This new 60 track compilation dates from July 2013 and covers the period 1952 to 1962. CD1: 1952-1962; CD2: 1955-1962 & CD3: 1952-1962. The running times are 52.48; 47.19 & 50.12.
Fans of Burt Bacharach will know that his most successful collaboration was with Hal David and this set features 15 of their songs. There was also a fruitful teaming with Bob Hilliard and there are 19 of their songs too. 1961 was a good year and they had 3 hits.
Burt Bacharach is a talented pianist and two tracks are of him performing with orchestral backing and I thought the first Rosanne was delightful and the second Searching Wind quite fascinating.
Many big names have recorded his compositions and there is a breadth of performance included here. The sound of Bacharach is easily recognised in spite of the different styles of music being performed and it is true to say that he created a style of easy listening and early beat music that met with great approval.
This is an excellent set and another addition to the Not Now Music library. The liner notes are by regular contributor Helen Akitt. The slimline gatefold packaging is attractively illustrated as all issues on this label are and the credits include composers and recording year.
The sound quality is excellent throughout and some tracks are mono to my ears and others clearly stereo. What is good is that the overall sound levels are maintained and that makes listening easy. Recommended. Pricewise a great deal.
